Sonography Trade Schools

Learn to perform ultrasounds through a diagnostic medical sonography program.

Sonographers play a crucial role in modern diagnostic medicine. This relatively new field combines patient care with a technical proficiency in using advanced ultrasound imaging technology. Sonography training programs are available through most technical schools and universities as part of the Health Sciences department. Options to obtain a Bachelor of Science through a diagnostic medical sonography program are common at many universities.

College of Southern Nevada: Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program offered at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is six semesters and seeks to train students on the use of ultrasound for the imaging of soft tissue and vascular systems in the abdomen, pelvis and heart. After completion of the course, students become eligible for the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer certification exam. CSN has an open-door policy, by which they admit students with high school diplomas at equal opportunity with students who don't have their diplomas.

Rochester Institute of Technology, New York State: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is intended for obtaining either a Bachelor of Science degree or a certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The program provides a solid foundation in science as well as liberal arts, while placing emphasis on practical experience. The Bachelor of Science program is three years long, two years for transfer students, while the certificate program is 18 months long and is available to those already licensed in an area of Allied Health Science or individuals possessing a bachelor's degree in the life sciences.

Bellevue College, Washington State: Diagnostic Ultrasound

At the completion of the Associate of Arts degree program in Diagnostic Ultrasound, Bellevue College students will have the training to operate a variety of ultrasound imaging devices, specializing in diagnostic equipment. Graduates will have the practical experience, knowledge of standard medical terms and one-on-one patient relationship skills necessary to provide adequate and compassionate care. Admission is based on a minimum 3.2 overall grade point average (GPA) in prerequisite coursework.

Weber State University, Utah: Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Certificate of Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Weber State University combines three main areas of focus in the medical, cardiac and vascular disciplines. Each area of focus requires 26 credit hours to complete and a minimum 2.0 overall GPA. Admission to the program is selective, and placement is limited each year. Applicants are accepted based on their GPA, letters of recommendation and an on-site interview.
