Diy Kitchen Cabinet Uplift

Paint

If you live in an older home you have probably considered updating your kitchen. But, like so many other people, you walk into your kitchen and see cabinets that are still functional and nice. You want your kitchen to look updated and still functional. Painting your kitchen cabinets can give your kitchen the perfect uplift that it needs. Painting your kitchen cabinets yourself can also save you hundreds of dollars over replacing your cabinets, or having them professionally painted. Does this Spark an idea?

Choosing the Paint

Painting dark and dreary cabinets can brighten up a room and make an outdated kitchen look fun and modern. Let your imagination soar as you chose what color you want to paint your cabinets. Be sure to pick something that you will still enjoy a few years from now. Whites and creams typically do very well in a kitchen to help update existing cabinetry, however explore your options before committing to a specific color.

Clean Cabinets and Remove Doors

The first thing you need to do before painting your kitchen cabinets is clean them. Use a sponge and denatured alcohol to clean off the grimy dirt and grease that accumulates on kitchen cabinetry. After you have cleaned the cabinets be sure to remove the doors and store the hinges in a safe place. It is also a good idea to mark the hinges and doors so you know where to replace them when you have finished painting.

Prime and Paint

After you have cleaned and removed the doors of your kitchen cabinets, apply a good coat of primer to your cabinets with a roller. Always use high quality rollers and paint brushes so that you do not do a poor job when painting. After you have primed the cabinets you are ready to paint them. However, do not skip the priming process. Priming you cabinets will keep any remaining dirt and grease from ruining your paint job. Once you have allowed your cabinets to dry for three to five days after painting, reattach the doors to the base. What you will then have is a bright, fun, uplifted kitchen.
