Georgia has diagnostic medical sonography schools.
Medical sonography is the process of using frequency waves to diagnose illnesses and disorders. Physicians rely heavily upon this process, also referred to as diagnostic medical sonography, to determine the body's internal state. Consequently, many institutions of higher learning offer degree or certificate programs in the field. Georgia has several technical schools that specialize in diagnostic medical sonography.
Columbus Technical College
Columbus Technical College in Columbus, Georgia, offers an associate degree in diagnostic medical sonography. The school prepares students for entry-level careers in the field with instruction that focuses on anatomy, physiology, and pathology. The school provides state-of-the-art equipment and technology to instruct students on sonography terms such as imaging and color flow. Additionally, students learn ultrasound techniques on various parts of the body. The program is two years long and graduates of the program can take American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) exam. The ARDMS offers Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) testing in ultrasound physics and abdomen or OB/Gyn (gynecology) specialization. Students can test and receive certifications in all three areas or students may choose to specialize in one area. (The school does not prepare students for the Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer test). Students may also become members of Lambda Nu, which is a radiology and imaging association for top students in the field. The school charges a $25 application fee and students must provide an official high school transcript or GED transcript.
