What Are The Different Types Of Medical Billing

What Are the Different Types of Medical Billing?

Healthcare providers submit claims to insurance companies to get paid for their services. Their patient data must be highly organized and accessible. Three types of medical billing are available; the most suitable one depends on the scope and type of your practice.

Desktop

Desktop medical billing software stores information directly on your computer. It is quick, efficient and completely under your control. The disadvantage is that it is not as easily expandable, should your office grow.

Server-Based

Server medical billing is similar to desktop billing, with proprietary software, but it stores information on a remote server that is accessed via the Internet. This software tends to be more expensive than the desktop kind, but is more suitable for larger healthcare providers or smaller ones intent on growth.

Web-Based

Web-based billing requires an Internet connection to access data, but it uses a Web program in the browser rather than software. Pricing tends to be subscription-based, and therefore more manageable, as opposed to the upfront licensing fee that is typical of desktop and server billing. A drawback is limited integration to external devices, such as ultrasound machines, that can help streamline patient data input for billing and organizational purposes. There is also a potential issue for practices without dependable broadband Internet access.
