Receive Aflac Benefits

Aflac insurance policies help pay for hospital stays and emergency treatments.

Health insurance coverage helps protect individuals and families from catastrophic expenses when medical care is needed. The United States Census Bureau reports that over 50 million Americans do not have medical insurance, and these numbers are expected to increase. The American Family Life Assurance Company (Aflac) was founded in 1955 and has become the largest provider of supplemental insurance in the United States. Aflac offers policies for disabilities, emergency care, intensive care, critical injuries and dental care. Aflac health policies provide additional insurance to your primary medical coverage. You must follow important steps to receive Aflac benefits in any state.

Instructions

1. Contact the Human Resources department where you are employed to inquire if your employer offers supplemental insurance through Aflac. According to Aflac, over 430,000 businesses make Aflac supplemental insurance available to their employees, including some colleges, universities and governmental associations. There are several benefits to joining an Aflac group policy through your company, such as reduced insurance rates due to a larger volume of people and premiums that can be withdrawn on a pretax basis.

2. Decide if supplemental health insurance can benefit you. Some things to consider when determining if you need a supplemental insurance plan include health risk factors, amount in savings, need for transferable coverage and the amount of insurance you can afford. What policy you choose will determine the amount of coverage provided, but most Aflac policies pay cash benefits directly to the consumer, allowing you to decide cover expenses that are not covered by your traditional insurance policy.

3. Check your local yellow pages to see if there is an Aflac insurance agent near you. Aflac insurance agents receive ongoing training about new products, services and tips on specializing insurance plans to meet the needs of the customer. Aflac has insurance offices in most major cities, so make an appointment with a local agent to discuss your need for supplemental health insurance.

4. Call the Aflac customer service number to obtain information and apply for supplemental health insurance coverage. Customer service representatives are trained to answer your questions and help you determine the best policy for your needs. Aflac representatives are available from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. Eastern time to assist with your application.

5. Log on to the Internet and visit the Aflac website for more information about supplemental insurance policies. Click on the "Get an Aflac Quote" link in the upper-right corner of the Aflac home page. Fill out the submission page and click on "Submit" to send your information to an Aflac representative, who will get in touch with you.

6. Examine your Aflac insurance policy once you receive your welcome packet. Verify that the materials in your packet represent the plan you purchased and call your local agent if the materials do not match your preferred plan. File your Aflac materials in a safe place and review them periodically to see if you need to make changes.
