An EMS ambulance in the United Kingdom.
Emergency medical service (EMS) personnel provide emergency out-of-hospital care. They also transport injured or sick patients to hospitals and other medical facilities. Those in this field include not only ambulance workers but firefighter/paramedics and rescue personnel. States and private organizations have grant programs to help fund EMS professionals and services.
National Emergency Medicine Association (NEMA)
Since 1982, this nonprofit organization has been devoted to preventing illness and injury by addressing health issues through technology, equipment, applied research and educational programs. The association's board of directors awards grants to EMS students and professionals every December. The Grants Advisory Board reviews the grant requests and recommends funding for EMS professionals. Those sending a proposal should outline what the grant will accomplish, the period during which the grant will be used, whether the project will continue or expire, the qualifications of those involved with the grant, proof of similar programs in the past and the results.

Florida Department of Health
The state of Florida offers assistance to EMS professionals through the county grant and matching grant programs. Only Florida's 67 counties are eligible to receive the county grant. The matching grants program has a list of projects that were funded in the past. If an EMS team's project is similar to those on that list, they may be eligible to receive a grant. There are two types of grants: general matching grants and rural matching grants. General matching grants are for private, urban and some rural EMS organizations. The state pays 75 percent of budgets, and the grantee pays 25 percent. Rural matching grants are available to applicants in counties with a population of 100,000 or less and a population density of 100 or fewer people per square mile. The state pays 90 percent of approved budgets and the grantee pays 10 percent.
