Instructions Especially For Baby Bottle Warmers

Instructions Especially for Baby Bottle Warmers

There are several types of baby bottle warmers on the market. Electric home bottle warmers work with water and steam to warm your baby's bottle, while travel baby bottle warmers use chemicals and insulation to warm a bottle on the go. Using either type of baby bottle warmer is quite easy and requires little setup.

Electric Warmers

Home warmers are to be used at home and require you to add water before warming the bottle. Generally, electric warmers have a fill line to which you add water. Once you have filled your warmer with water, place your bottle in the warming hole. Take off the nipple portion of the bottle to help steam or gas escape. The amount of time you keep your baby's bottle in the warmer depends on the temperature of the bottle before you placed it in the warmer. For example, a bottle that has been chilled in a refrigerator will take a longer time to warm than a room-temperate bottle. Refer to your baby bottle warmer's instruction booklet for further details regarding use.

Travel Warmers

Travel warmers work with chemicals that warm your baby's bottle and thick insulating fabric that surrounds the bottle. Travel warmers can be used anywhere and are most convenient when you are on the go and do not have access to electricity. Each travel warmer works slightly different; refer to the warmer's instructions for additional information about its use.

Warm Milk

Because breast milk is warm, warming your baby's bottle before giving it to her may be comforting and reminiscent to your infant. According to the Baby Centre website, most older babies do not mind cold milk. Bottles from the refrigerator may be too cold for your baby, however, and it is suggested that you warm the bottle slightly before giving it to your child.

If you choose to warm your baby's bottle, you also can run hot tap water over the outside of the bottle or fill a pan of water on the stove and heat the bottle with boiling water. The Baby Centre website warns not to warm your baby's bottle in a microwave because the milk may not be heated evenly, and hot spots developed in the bottle could burn your baby. Whatever warming method you choose, check the milk's temperature on your wrist before giving a warmed bottle to your child. That will help you determine whether or not the milk is warm but not warm enough to burn your baby's mouth.
