Ideas For Preschool Yearbooks

Create a yearbook filled with special moments.

Commemorate any preschool class with a photo-filled yearbook. Use school pictures, digital photos taken throughout the year of parties and events, quotes and decorative design accents to create a thoughtful album of a very special class. Teachers, children and parents can make their own books, hire a commercial vendor or design team, or create a yearbook CD.

Child-Made

Preschoolers can help to create their own hand-made yearbooks. Use pre-made blank journals or put together your own album-style books. To make your own books cut two pieces of cardboard per child into rectangles that are at least eight by ten inches in size as a cover and back. Cut matching sized pieces of lightly colored construction paper to place inside. Punch three holes on the left sides of the cardboard and construction paper near the top, middle and bottom. Sew the book together using ribbon or yarn. Whether you use a pre-made or home-made book, help the children to fill the pages with taped or glued digital photos, stickers and stenciled letters. Create a simple theme for each page such as field trips or holiday celebrations, and turn the picture choosing process into a fun sorting game for the kids.

Adult-Made

Teachers and/or parents can create professional looking preschool yearbooks for the class by using crafting supplies or computer software. Crafty adults may want to consider making their own unique yearbooks. Design a special book for each child that focuses on his or her year. Include photos of the child as well as friends, favorite activities and events. For those adults who may not want to craft their own yearbooks, many tech companies offer downloadable software creators. For example, ezbook.net provides a free, user-friendly program to help you edit or frame photos, compose and add lettering.

Professional

If budget isn't a large concern, a professionally designed and manufactured preschool yearbook may be a viable option. These slick-looking books mimic the same ones found at the elementary or high schools levels, and may include dozens of pages worth of high-quality photos, captions and pictures. Companies such as Jostens, Herff Jones and Walsworth all create yearbooks for schools with children of many different ages. Visit the yearbook publishers' websites to look for special packages, design options and ordering ideas.

Digital Yearbooks

Create a yearbook CD to save money, introduce the preschoolers to technology and help out the environment. Instead of using reams of paper to create and publish dozens of books, use a basic design program to make your own digital version. Include a photo slide show that starts at the first day of school and moves on to special events throughout the year. Add in a soundtrack of upbeat, child friendly music to make this special memento even more entertaining.
