Neck wraps can be an effective way to relax your body and calm your mind. Many types of flower and herb essential oils can be combined with rice to create a therapeutic, warming neck wrap. Lavender is a popular ingredient because its scent is especially fragrant as well as medicinal. Breathing in the scent of lavender can help alleviate headaches, nervousness and tension due to stress.
Instructions
1. Cut two fabric rectangles of equal size. For a smaller wrap, make the fabric rectangles 8 by 15 inches, for a larger wrap, cut them 10 by 20 inches. Cut one piece, for the neck wrap's lining, out of flannel or a similar fabric. Cut the second piece, for the outer cover, out of fleece.
2. Fold the flannel in half, with the right side in, forming a long, skinny rectangle. Sew a seam along the long side and one of the short sides of the rectangle, leaving the other short side open. Turn the fabric tube right-side out.
3. Repeat Step 2 with the fleece rectangle.
4. Fill the flannel tube with uncooked rice, leaving 3 to 4 inches of space at the top.
5. Add 6 to 8 drops of lavender oil to the rice.
6. Sew the open side of the flannel tube closed.
7. Shake well to incorporate the lavender oil and rice.
8. Slide the flannel tube into the fleece tube and sew the open end of the fleece tube closed.
9. Heat the finished neck wrap in the microwave for 90 seconds, stopping two or three times to squeeze or shake the wrap to mix the rice.
10. Apply the warmed wrap to your neck.
Tips Warnings
Store the neck wrap in the refrigerator when it's not in use.
Be careful not to heat the wrap too long; it can burn your neck.
