Build An Oak Plywood Entertainment Center

Entertainment centers are infinitely customizable.

Entertainment centers are constantly changing due to the ever-shifting sizes and shapes of modern media devices. Yet the ability to store all your electronics and media in one place have consistently necessitated a market for entertainment centers. By designing your own custom entertainment center, you ensure you'll have a piece of furniture that exactly meets your needs, and by building it from oak plywood, you'll ensure its longevity. The design is easily customizable to accommodate electronics of various sizes and to support a television.

Instructions

1. Set the side boards parallel to each other on the working surface with their long, thin sides touching the ground. Position the top board up against them so the ends of the side board butt into the bottom surface of the top board. Slide the side boards out until their outside surfaces are flush with the end surfaces of the top board.

2. Predrill four holes down through the top board and into each side board. Attach with 2-inch wood screws. Repeat to attach the bottom board in the same manner.

3. Use the measuring tape to find the very center of the bottom board and mark it clearly. Position the center support board parallel to the side boards inside the entertainment center with its end butting up against the marking. Predrill four holes through the bottom of the bottom board and into the center support board. Attach the center support board with 2-inch screws.

4. Arrange one of the large shelf boards on top of the center support board so that it's parallel with the top and bottom boards, resting on the center support board and touching both side boards with its ends. Predrill four evenly spaced holes down through the shelf board and into the center support board. Attach with wood screws. Attach the ends of the shelf board to the side boards in the same manner.

5. Lift the entertainment unit upright and attach additional shelves in the top or bottom sections by positioning the shelf in the desired place and marking the location on each side with the pencil. Drill two holes at each marking level, being careful not to penetrate the outside surface of the side boards. Insert pegs in the holes and rest the pegs on the shelf.

Tips Warnings

Add a backing to the entertainment unit if desired by stapling fabric to the rear of the unit tightly.
