Genie Garage Door Remote/Transmitter Not Working

Hi,
We have just moved into our first house and noticed that the Genie remote/transmitter for the garage door opener does not work (does not open or close).
I am able to open/shut the garage door using the wall mounted switch but not the remote/transmitter.
I changed the battery, tried for different distances (5 feet to 25 feet), inside/outside the garage, pointing directly and different points on the door. No luck
We do not have the owners manual or any other document (troubleshooting guide).
The left sensor (facing garage door from inside) is solid red and the right sensor is solid green. Is that normal?
Any help/ideas/thoughts on troubleshoot/fix the issue is appreciated.
I tried searching the forums for this issue but did not find any thing I could use (some of it a whole lot of matches).
Thanks!

Sounds to me like the remote needs to be progammed to the drive unit. If you have no manual, I am sure you can get it online from Genie. Sensor indication is correct, if one was not lit or blinking that would indicate a problem. I have installed many of these units, but for the life of me, I can't recall program the remote, and I leave the manuals with my customers.

Thanks Bill. I have been able to get hold of the manuals on line from Genie and will give the re-programming of the remote a shot.
